Man Utd have faced a backlash from two vital players over their future at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have tried to tie down Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea and French forward Anthony Martial to new long-term contracts.

Both can depart for nothing in 18 months time and the English club want to ensure they don’t pack their bags and leave the club.

However, in a worrying update for the Red Devils supporters, it’s now emerged Frenchman and Spaniard have turned down talks over fresh terms

Football Communications and Operations Consultant Ian McGarry has revealed Man Utd Transfer plans.

When discussing Manchester United’s recruitment and contract renewal strategy, McGarry said: “You’ve got some players like Anthony Martial who Manchester United want to renew, or David de Gea who they are desperate to renew. Both players are refusing to speak to the club.

“That tells you something about where Manchester United are right now in terms of their status, their ambition and how the players view the club itself if players like Martial and De Gea are saying ‘it’s all very well you want to renew the contracts, but we’d like to weigh up our options.’

“On the other hand, you’ve got the likes of Chris Smalling who is out of contract. Phil Jones as well.

“Then you’ve got someone like Luke Shaw who does renew having played effectively 25 per cent of games over the four years of his initial contract at Manchester United, who gets a 50 per cent upgrade on his contract because he’s played five good games this season.

“Other players are looking at that and thinking ‘what about me? I’ve been here longer, I’ve done more, I’ve won trophies. Why am I not being offered an upgrade on my contract?’

“I think it has a very unsettling effect, and it’s something Mourinho has no control over.

“And indeed it might be the case that Manchester United need to cut through the wheat from chaff and get rid of players on high earning contracts.

“But you can’t realistically look to recruit eight/nine/ ten players of the quality Manchester United need in one transfer window.”

Man United ready to pay big money for the footballer as Lukaku needs a back-up.

 

Kevin de bruyne to miss Manchester derby

Man City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne injured again and will miss the Premier League game against Man United. Belgium international skip most of this season’s matches as he had a serious injury and came back just last week but he suffered again during the Carabao Cup match and won’t be able to play the most important game in Premier League.

Kevin joined the Citizens from Wolfsburg in 2015 with a £70m deal. He is one of the best midfielders in Europe and unchanged figure for the club. Last campaign De Bruyne played 50 games, scored 10 goals and made 22 assists in all competition. This is an amazing result and he can do much more in this season. The 27-year-old played is contracted with Man City until 2023 and his release clause is around £135. His price could increase and become much more during this campaign.

Belgian midfielder also played in the World Cup and helped his national team to finish the tournament in a third place which is already a big success for the footballer. He was a key figure for the team and played fantastically during the competition. Kevin is a big loss for the Citizens and Guardiola has to back-up him with another midfielder.

Rayo Vallecano 2 Barcelona 3: Dembele and Suarez strike late to save Valverde's men

Barcelona left it late to see off Rayo Vallecano and register their fifth consecutive win in all competitions.

Barcelona scored twice in the last three minutes to edge past lowly Rayo Vallecano 3-2 and open up a four-point lead at the top of LaLiga.

A third straight league win moves Ernesto Valverde's side clear of second-placed Atletico Madrid, but their advantage will be reduced back to one point if Alaves beat Eibar on Sunday.

Luis Suarez put the visitors ahead in the 11th minute, but Vallecano looked like they would record just their second win of the season as Jose Pozo and Alvaro Garcia netted either side of the interval.

The Catalan giants produced a stirring last-gasp comeback, though, with Ousmane Dembele drawing them level in the 87th minute and then Suarez delivering the decisive blow three minutes later.

Any hopes Vallecano had of containing their illustrious opponents – 5-1 El Clasico victors last weekend – were obliterated after just 11 minutes.

Jordi Alba latched onto Ivan Rakitic's stunning cross-field pass and pulled the ball back for Suarez to slot in his eighth league goal of the campaign from six yards.

The hosts should have drawn level just after the half-hour mark, Pozo firing wide from 10 yards after a blistering counter-attack had torn Barca's backline apart.

The former Almeria man made amends 10 minutes before the interval, however, whipping a wonderful strike in off Marc-Andre ter Stegen's left-hand post from 25 yards.

Barca came agonisingly close to restoring their advantage moments before the break when Suarez's curled effort crashed off the outside of the upright.

That near-miss was brought into sharp focus after 57 minutes when substitute Garcia powered home from close range after Raul de Tomas' header had fallen kindly to him off the post.

Vallecano were unable to hold on for a famous win, however. Dembele pulled Barca level with a crisp half-volley from Gerard Pique's headed knockdown before Suarez stole in at the back post to prod past goalkeeper Alberto Garcia for a dramatic late winner.

 

What it means? Barca show fighting spirit
It was not pretty, but Barcelona showed enough grit in those final stages to maintain the momentum of their stunning win over Real Madrid. It is five wins on the spin in all competitions now for Valverde's side and with Lionel Messi set to return imminently, it looks ominous for their LaLiga rivals. Vallecano, meanwhile, remain rooted in 19th after just one win all season.

Suarez the difference again
Fresh from his hat-trick against Madrid, Suarez was once again the talisman for his side. The Uruguayan now has nine league goals this season and is showing no signs of slowing down in front of goal.

Rafinha proves ineffective
The Brazilian had a game to forget. Moments after flashing well wide from a good position early in the second half, he was replaced by Dembele, whose fine finish late on set up a remarkable finale.

What's next?
Barca travel to Inter in the Champions League on Tuesday where they will hope to welcome back Messi from his broken arm, while Vallecano's next match is at home to Villarreal next Sunday in LaLiga.

The former Red Devils forward knows all about the midfielder's talents, but is demanding more from the World Cup winner

Paul Pogba needs to find greater consistency if he is to become a world class player, according to former Manchester United player and academy director Brian McClair.

Pogba is United’s joint top-scorer this season in all competititons, having netted his fifth goal of the campaign against Everton on Sunday.

But despite topping the goalscoring charts Pogba has also been on the receiving end of some criticism – something the 25-year-old has grown used to since his £89 million ($116m) return to Old Trafford in the summer of 2016.

The France international also fell out with manager Jose Mourinho earlier this season for comments made about the team’s tactics, resulting in Pogba being stripped of the vice-captaincy.

McClair, who knows all about Pogba’s talents having been at United’s academy when the midfielder first moved to Old Trafford in 2009, says he is happy with the Frenchman’s performances.

However, the 54-year-old has warned Pogba he still needs to perform on a regular basis if he is to be considered a true great.

"Pogba is doing pretty well at Manchester United,” McClair told ESPN. “There is a bit too much social media nonsense, which is nothing to do with playing football, but Pogba has scored some important goals and played well in important games.

"World-class players grab the main events, the semi-finals and finals for club and country, the biggest league games. France won the World Cup this year, but I don't know how many people would say that one particular player grabbed the whole thing. Pele grabbed World Cups, Garrincha and [Diego] Maradona too.

"[Michel] Platini grabbed European championships. Real Madrid, with players like Cristiano Ronaldo, [Luka] Modric and Sergio Ramos, grab the most important games when it really matters. They change games when things are going against you. Lionel Messi does the same. Cristiano did it when he was at Manchester United.

"A top Manchester United player needs to be at least 7/10 every game. And in the proper big games you need to make some 10/10 appearances." 

McClair also recalled the attributes that attracted United to Pogba in the first place as well as the position where he feels will be most effective.

"He was big, strong, quick and athletic. He wasn't and isn't a Patrick Vieira-type dominant midfielder like some have suggested; he's more of a Lionel Messi-type player," he said. “That might sound daft, but he's a player who can find a pass, beat someone, shoot and score.

"He has fantastic skills, but for him to have the best opportunity of success at Old Trafford, Pogba needs to be playing in the final third of the pitch as much as possible, whether that's him on the ball, running into positions or shooting. That has been more evident in the last couple of games where he's got into different positions and come close to scoring."

Pogba’s deteriorating relationship with Mourinho led to reports the he could look to leave Old Trafford in January.

The midfielder even admitted earlier this season he was unsure of his future at the cluband continues to be linked with a move to Barcelona.

However, McClair has a warning for Pogba should he consider leaving for a second time.

"The grass can always seem greener," McClair added. "But it doesn't matter if you are going to be a Man United player for a week or for 15 years, you will look back at the end of your career and Man United will have been the best club that you've ever played for."
